Pioneer Teens 2016

We have completed another wonderful year of the Pioneer Teens summer art program. It was a great success. Thank you to all who supported and taught these amazing pioneers. Here are some things they had to say about the program followed by some images of their experiences during the program and their art.

“A journey through art and yourself”

“Pioneer Teens is a program that takes you on a mental journey to deepen your understanding of art and yourself.”

“I believe symbolism is how we apply our ideas and our experiences to something abstract, something we feel is beyond us. One of the things I learned in this program is that symbols are different for everyone, and that is what makes them important. Symbols are deeply personal and in turn can help us connect to one another and understand one another.”

“I learned to identify and think about symbols and to get more in touch with my subconscious.“

Teens Take the Met - 2016

ARAS participated in this event in the Nolen Library on the ground floor of the Met!

Teens Take the Met - 2015

ARAS was thrilled to take part in the Teens Take the Met event this fall! This was the second time ARAS participated in this event and we chose dragons as a theme this time. We brought lots of multicultural images of dragons from the archive and contemprary sources all to inspire the teens to make their own dragon and send as a post card to a friend. Over 4,500 teens took part! Here are some images of the teens engaging with the symbol of the Dragon!

Congratulations to Pioneer Teens 2015! A huge thank you to everyone who supported these amazing pioneers. The program was a huge success and a great experience for everyone involved.  Check out our education blog to see photos of the teen's artwork and to read about their time at ARAS!
