10-12-22 Poetry Invite to Write

Here is the image for the October Invite to Write:

Head of eagle-headed genius holding cone-shaped date spathe, wearing armlet, bracelet having rosette with 15 rays within circle on R wrist, 2 daggers tucked in belt, Mesopotamia, Assyrian, 9th c. B.C.E.

We invite you to explore the significance of the objects held and exhibited in the detail. What are the effects of the juxtaposition of the objects and the gesture? What do you think these bracelets, armlets, and tools could signify? Think of the composition as a collage of material culture. While this photograph is a detail of a larger work, experiment with viewing the image above as a complete composition.

Post your poems here in the forum or email them to info@aras.org . We look forward to reading them! Thank you!

The image

Hi. I cannot see the image. But I googled the description and came up with this, from Detroit Institute of Arts.
Is this the image?
Thanks,
Rose

Narrative Relief

Plucked a date from Tree of Life,
a sweet date, antediluvian date
when we were gods and roamed the earth
wading through spates and floods.
And on that date, a protective spathe,
once bright in colourful memory
now tucked hushed, buried in iron-dusted sand,
is the power to pollinate espalier’d generations
of kings and queens, the archetypal royalty
who fly each night through my own depths.

Who are the gods and genii that dwell in me,
buried in the cradle of my civilization? They are
more than a mere museum fact; they are
the buried story in my own narrative relief.
