Our symbol for this month is maze/labyrinth.

A maze or a labryrinth is a journey where at any point in your journey, where you were is more important than where you are going. The maze abstracts your movement into a series of choices where you can never be sure in your decision until you reach a dead end, your destination, or wander forever. When Daedalus constructs the labyrinth to hold the Minotaur, the puzzle is so complex it almost traps its maker. The Minotaur embodies the dangers contained within the unknowable journey of the maze, where the traveller is faced by dangers that are protected from the wider world by their being hidden and unknowable. When Theseus cheats the maze by using a ball of string given to him by his lover Ariadne, it shows how the safest way to move into the unknown is with a knowledge of your origin.

Explore your own leaps of faith, how do you navigate the distance between where you are going and where you came from. Think about dangers that lie hidden in the unknown and how hidden dangers are protected by their distance but also how those distances protect us. Consider also self-sufficiency and also the challenge of ever making a truly 'independent' decision.

Happy writing!
