Here is the image for the June Invite to Write:
Our symbol for this month is shoe.
Shoes represent an intersection of form and function. We wear shoes for different purposes and occasions and even for different jobs. In a time where uniforms are increasingly rare in many occupations, shoes still announce your work. Shoes also are one of the great indicators of class and status. From musicians and actors to athletes, shoes can become synonymous with a certain person's caché. Examples include the Air Jordan and the Beatle Boot, shoes that become not only synonymous with legendary status within a discipline but also a way for fans to own that greatness or cool for themselves. For this month's Invite to Write, consider your own role to your shoes and other things that you wear/present about yourself. Do you try to to inhabit the magic of other people who you admire through how you present? What do the functional shoes you wear communicate about yourself? What do they conceal? Think about dressing up, about costumes, about the intersections of form, function, fashion, and history.
